RULES OF THE:
3rd “Eufemio da Messina” Half Marathon
MESSINA – 25TH APRIL 2010
The Associazione Polisportiva Odysseus Messina is pleased to announce, under the aegis of FIDAL (The Italian Federation for Track and Field events) and CIP (Italian Paraolympic Committee) the 3rd “Eufemio da Messina” Half Marathon (Km 21,097). In the same event will be also, 3rd “Antonello da Messina” Marathon (Km 42,195) and the 1st “Shakespeare Run” (Km 12,00). The race is included in the FIDAL national race calendar and will take place on

Start time: 9:00 a.m. REGISTRATION RULES AND GUIDELINES
To participate in the 2010 Half Marathon (Km 21,097) all participants must be at least 18 years of age or older on 25th April 2010, must be in possession of a medical certificate which proves they meet the required medical criteria for participating in athletic events. The certificate must be valid on 25th April 2010 and must be members of the follows categories:
APPLICATION OPEN DATE
Applications for the 2010 Half Marathon (Km 21,097) will be accepted from 15th august 2009. REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee for the 2010 Half Marathon (Km 21,097) is 10 Euros for registration between 15th august and 18th April 2010
Registration is free for the following individuals/groups;
• The first three men and the first three women as classified in the first 2009 Messina Half Marathon • • One athlete per ten entries for each sporting club INCLUDED IN THE REGISTATION FEE • Race number • Insurance • Medical and technical assistance • Race pack including products from the race sponsors • Refreshments and sponge points along the route • Final refreshments on departure and arrival • Participation in the post race ‘pasta party’ • A copy of the official marathon programme and additional race information • Timing stewards • Chip timing device • Participation medal for all runners (on completion of the course) • Safe baggage deposit • Changing facilities • Transportation for athletes who retire during the marathon HOW TO ENTER All runners must complete the entry card application which can be downloaded from the Messina Marathon website, www.messinamarathon.com . This should then be faxed to the following number 0039 095 2937008. In both cases the following documentation must accompany the faxed application form. • Photocopy of the proof of payment. This can be a photocopy of the bank transfer or postal transfer confirmation or a copy of the bank or personal cheque. • Photocopy of the relevant FIDAL/CIP /sporting body card, or ‘dichiarazione sostitutiva’ from the President of the participants sporting association/club which certifies their membership for the current year. Alternatively only for the categories of ‘Masters’ and ‘Amatori’ a photocopy of the membership card that certifies membership of a sporting association/ club affiliated to ‘Enti di Promozione Sportiva’ recognised by CONI and in special agreement with FIDAL. • Only for those athletes who are not in possession of either a sporting federation membership or membership of ‘Enti di Promozione Sportiva’ a photocopy of a valid medical certificate which proves they meet the required medical criteria for participating in athletic events valid on the 19th April 2009. The application form must be completed and sent together with a copy of the medical certificate and a cheque for 5 Euros made out to A.D Polisportiva Odysseus Messina which should then be sent to the following address A.D Polisportiva Odysseus Messina Via dei Mille 181 98123 Messina

Registration fees are non refundable
In the case of non-participation, it is possible to; 1. Transfer an existing registration to a nominated individual. The new participant must thereafter supply all personal details, relevant proof of membership and a valid medical certificate to the race organisers. 2. Transfer registration to the 2010 3rd “Eufemio da Messina” Half Marathon. The entry will remain valid for the 2011 race. All transfers must be made on or before 18th April 2010. ENTRY CONFIRMATION Confirmation of all race entries will be detailed on the Messina marathon website www.messinamarathon.com RACE NUMBER AND RACE PACK Race numbers and packs will be available for collection from Piazza Cairoli, Messina on the following dates. Saturday 24th April 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday 25th April 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Both the race number and race pack must be collected in person by the participant. • Organisation/club members must present proof of identity (ID card, passport) and a valid FIDAL or sporting association membership card. • Non organisation/club members must present proof of identity, an original medical certificate (photocopies will not be accepted) valid on 25th April 2010 and the relevant FIDAL form (both parts) which will be checked and given back in validation of membership. Participants who are unable to collect their race number in person may nominate an individual to act on their behalf. The nominated individual must present written confirmation upon collection. To minimise the waiting time for all runners please delegate the collection of the race number and pack to one nominee only. We regret it is not possible to send race numbers in advance. At the race number collection point race runners who have not previously presented an original valid FIDAL/sport association/body membership card and a valid medical certificate must do so. Failure to present a valid card and certificate on request will result in the non-allocation of the associated race number. THE PASTA PARTY Entry to the Pasta Party on race day is free for all runners and their supporters on presentation of the ticket which participants will receive at the race number/pack collection point. The Pasta Party will take place between on Sunday 25th April between 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. at Piazza Cairoli. START TIME The race will start on Sunday 25th April at 9:00 a.m. from Piazza Cairoli, Messina. Disabled runners will start by category one minute before the official marathon start time. Toilets, changing facilities and a manned safe baggage deposit will be available at the start zone. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE Medical assistance will be available at the start/finish zones and along the race route. In addition, a massage zone with specialised physiotherapists will be situated at the finish. RACE RULES The majority of the race route will be closed to road traffic. Areas which are not closed will be policed by the Traffic and Urban Police, Army and volunteers. The race will also be managed by the official FIDAL race judges. All runners must wear their electronic chip device supplied by Timing Data Service Runners who do not wear the chip will not be timed and therefore will not be included in the official race classifications. All chips must be handed back on completion (or non-completion) of the race. Failure to return a chip will result in disqualification and a fine of 15 Euros. In addition, race numbers must not be tampered with under any circumstances. Runners who attempt to amend, damage or obscure their race number will not be awarded any subsequent prizes including any relevant prize money. TIME LIMIT The time limit for completion of the race is 5 h 30’. After this time race organisers cannot guarantee the compete closure of the race route to road traffic. AT THE FINISH All athletes who reach the finish will receive an official participation medal. At the Marathon Village all athletes, including those who for various reasons do not complete the race will receive refreshments, entry to the pasta party and massages. CLASSIFICATION Final classifications will be available on the official marathon website www.messinamarathon.comth April 2010. PRIZE GIVING Half Marathon Cash prizes, which will be given as reimbursement of expenses will be awarded to the first 50 men, the first 30 women and the first 10 club members (with more than 25 athletes, male and female, regulary arrived). Prize money will be not awarded until 150 days after race day. Other non-monetary race prizes include sports clothing and other related items will be given to the following athletes. - The first 3 classified athletes (men and women) in the FIDAL categories Assoluti, Amatori and Masters. from Monday 26 Non-monetary race prizes include sports clothing and other related items will be gived after the complete classification. In case the classification will not be completed in time the prize will be sent to the address on the entry form. The prize are not accumulated.
The prize giving ceremony will starter at 12.30 am.
PRIVACY AND IMAGE RIGHTS
With their entry in the 3rd 2010 “Antonello da Messina” Marathon, the athlete hereby gives permission to the organisers and their partners to use their photographic likeness and/or recorded image obtained during their participation in the aforementioned marathon for promotional material and/or advertising material, produced and sold worldwide for the maximum time permitted by law including any eventual extension to the original time period which may be subsequently added. Under the law D. Lgs 196/2003, with their entry in the 3rd 2010 City of Messina Marathon, the athlete permits that A.D Polisportiva Odysseus Messina may collect, use and supply data included on the race application form. The data will be used to prepare the race participation list, the final classification and race records to fulfil the services detailed in the current race rules as well as for promotion or information purposes or for the dispatch of written material. DECLARATION OF RESPONSIBILITY I accept that participating in the 3rd “Eufemio da Messina” Half Marathon 2010 and/or other sporting activities is a potential risk. I therefore voluntarily choose to compete in the event and assume all risks that may result from my participation in the event. Such risks include falls, accidents with vehicles/competitors or spectators, weather conditions including extreme cold and/or heat and traffic and road conditions. All risks are understood and accepted. In fully understanding what was previously written and considering my application accepted I, for myself and for the interest of no other person or parties release the organisational committee of the 3rd “Eufemio da Messina” Half Marathon 2010, A.D Polisportiva Odysseus Messina, all sporting clubs, Messina council, Province of Messina council, the Sicilian regional council, all event sponsors, the respective representatives, successors, officials, directors, members, agents and employers of the above mentioned societies of all present and future claims or responsibilities of any kind, known or unknown which may result from my participation in the event. VARIOUS The organisation, actively committed to the success of the event, decline all responsibility for damage to people or things before, during or after the race. The event is insured according to the rules in force. At the point of application, the applicant automatically accepts the rules and the conditions in force. For all additional regulations which are not included here please refer to the specific FIDAL regulations and to the rules in force. The race judges may disqualify athletes that do not pass the designated contact points located along the route. The organisation reserves the right to change at any point all clauses detailed in the current rules for reasons of ‘force majeure’.
